CNN: E equals MC-wha?

"According to a study by the National Science Foundation, 70 percent of Americans do not understand science. Here's the sad part: 30 percent don't even know what 70 percent means."

Ok, so the last half is a joke, but still... are american citizens capable of debating science-related politics when then don't know what they're talking about?...
