Temple Treatments

Interesting & alternative: Temple treatment for psychiatric illness

"A six-week stay at a Hindu temple in Tamil Nadu can produce the same improvement in people with severe psychiatric disorders as a month-long course of standard drugs, say researchers in India."

While I'm quite sure that giving "tender loving care, in a non-threatening environment, in tune with their own cultural beliefs, with the hope of recovery" will have a positive effect on many psychiatric illnesses a la depression etc, these claims are made without having conducted double-blind tests and hence should be subjected to further testing before being admitted as scientifically "proven"... Interesting, though, and I'm sure similar treatment in a western world could have similar effects (sending a depressive Christian to a monastery etc).
