The Plastic Cat alerted me to a new service called blogmints.com that basically scans blogs currently listed on weblogs.com and looks for posts with comments... Some will remember a heated debate over at blogroots regarding the republishing of entire blog postings from RSS feeds at the nuzee website. I will stand by what I said then: feel free to syndicate my RSS feed. I insert the postings' headers, excerpts and permanent links only. Blogmints, on the other hand, seems to nab text right off my webpage and slap it up on their frontpage. Regardless of "opt-out" options offered, I think a lot of people are not aware of this happening with their content...
I thought this might come up sooner than later. I've arranged so that the robot will only use an RSS feed and only the titles are shown. I didn't expect to get this much attention right away, blogmints is still very much an experiment.
Posted by: potatono on October 9, 2002 07:04 AMHey Justin and thanks for the response - that's great news! As I said and keep saying - I'm more than happy when people source my RSS feed (that's
why it's there ;-)
Keep up the good work; I'm sure your service can be a fun addition to the "blogosphere" (increasing awareness about "random" blogs, for example) when it gets past experimental status...
Posted by: andersja on October 9, 2002 10:17 AMMark is making a feature of this
http://diveintomark.org/archives/2002/10/11.html#further_reading_upgrades
to drive the "further reading" function. Bypassing trackback, he rips the text surrounding a referrer link back to his site and presents it as a comment on *his* site under the link referred to...Unsavoury...or a nice feature?
