I just received the following email from an obvious linkfarm-builder. If you have a personal or professional website, I strongly discourage you to participate in their schemes, as it will most likely have the opposite effect of the desired "PageRank" increase with the search engines (see linkfarm-link above)...:

From: Kim Summers <kimgsummers@link-builder.com>
To: webmaster@###.no
Subject: jacobsen.noI discovered jacobsen.no in Yahoo, my favorite search engine. I am requesting that you create a link from jacobsen.no to my client's web site if you feel that their content is in some way related or complements your site. In exchange, I'll post a link from their site to yours.
Exchanging links will help bring in more business for both your web site and my client's. An added benefit is increased search engine traffic because the search engines rank sites higher that have a good number of relevant links.
This is not a free-for-all link exchange, I don't waste my time with them and you shouldn't either. I am only linking to related web sites so that all my links are relevant to my site.
I would like to send you my client's web address, so that you can review their site. My client offers services for attaining high search engine rankings through website promotion and optimization.
Please let me know if you are interested in exchanging links. I'll send you more details once I hear back from you.
Looking forward to your reply.
Sincerely,
Kim Summers

They are still at in Nov 2003...
I am contacting you about cross linking. I am interested in [my site] because it looks like it's relevant to a site for which I am seeking links. The site is about a new site with information on dog health, diseases, problems, and health care. [and we have nothing to do with these topics!]
I'll keep the web address confidential and will send it to you only if you give me permission to do so. Just let me know if it's OK, and I'll send you the web address for your review. If you approve of the site, then the intention is to exchange links.
Looking forward to your reply.
Sincerely,

I suppose it would be interesting in replying some time, to see what kind of sites use their services...?
Anyway - I just bin all those requests, and so should everyone to avoid getting labelled by Google as linkfarm builders.

_____
You should notice that:
1) Every Page in thier Site has a PR0
2) GOOGLE searches for the URL and a link Search show NO RECORD meaning they have probably been dropped or banned.
3) A peak at the Home Page code reveals a robot meta = NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW.
Hmmmm!

The posts about Link Builder is right on the mark. I've now blocked link-builder.com. Here's another one for you:
linklords.com
Posted by: Bob Glover on August 11, 2004 04:05 AMI also came across them quite often in the past. But there are also some good linkbuilding companies out there that don't send auto-generated emails.
Posted by: Thomas on December 6, 2004 11:04 AMI received the same type of link-building request from Linklords.com today - I searched on their address (Tijuana, B.C. 22432) to check it out and was delighted to find this page with the warnings on it. Thanks for this info - it is very useful to those who are new to the whole link exchange area.
Posted by: Claire Fish on January 31, 2005 06:13 PMHave you ever come across a valid email request, which really got you to exchange links? I would like to have a peek at one.
