After receiving comprehensive feedback from several readers on my thinking about buying a new PDA, I ended up buying a new Tungsten T Friday. (In case anyone flies through Heathrow, they sell for only 314 GBP at the Dixon's Tax-Free shop).
I've already ordered a 128 Mb Secure Digital memory card to boost the capacity, and I expect it to arrive Tuesday...
Now, I'm doing what I should have done ages ago; collecting scraps of paper with phone numbers & mail addresses that are in my wallet, my laptop bag etc, typing in the contents of numerous business cards and doing some "archaeology" in old files extracting contact info and collecting it all in the Palm. I can feel my life getting more organized by the hour :-)
More updates with lists of software etc will follow. I absolutely sincerely recommend the hyper-enhanced calendar application DateBk5 compared to the built-in app from Palm. I'm also playing with TealPhone and others...
I hope your new Palm works out for you :)
I found I don't have the dicipline to use mine (an old m100) and I ended up reverting back to scraps of paper, etc.. I keep telling myself if I had a better handheld I'd make more use of it, however, I honestly think it would end up as an expensive paperweight much like the m100 is now.
Best of luck!
Posted by: Jon on January 24, 2003 09:34 AMThanks, Jon :-)
My old Palm III had been a paperweight for a long time, but I seriously feel that getting a new Palm has helped me structure the bits and scraps of paper into a more searcheable (and backup-able) format :-)
Posted by: andersja on January 24, 2003 01:13 PMYeah, same deal.. :) I got my first Palm (a USR Palm Pilot Personal) as an expensive toy. I bought a Visor Deluxe a couple years later as an expensive toy that ran a new operating system. Both of those ended up as expensive paperweights.
I recently bought a Sony Clie SJ33...So far it's turned into a portable game machine, time-waster, and MP3 player. I think I'll get my use out of this one.. :)
Posted by: Matt on March 8, 2003 03:09 AMRaised on Palms. Converted over to an XDA. Simply too much of a brick (also, work has given me a 6310i) - so that was it; back home to Palm (Tungsten T). Thing's sitting in the charger at the mo. Just thought I'd check for 'must haves'. What's folks' experience with or thoughts on memory cards (size, make etc.)?
Cheers
Rob
my first pda was palm iii and i switched to win ce (casiopea) and pocket pc (ipaq). those gadget seem like "can do" everything... but finally the "brick like" and "power drain" gadget had pushed me back to palm again.
finally i chose tt rather than tw. tt with bluetooth-hp is an excellent pairs.
i love this "feather" weight and "can do" gadget.

Posted by: mmuiz on April 3, 2003 06:10 AMYou should have done a bit more research on that Tungsten:

BTW: Palm shoved the Tungsten out the door, so the public wouldn't stop buying it after they heard about the HandSpring purchase. There are a horde of bugs and issues with the Tungsten. Call Palm support and ask them about it.
