Tons of people have casually mentioned this dude the last few days.
I felt completely left out. Who the f... is Dave Barry? Certainly unheard of on this side of the pond (or in my little world).
Wondering where to go for more information, Googlism was a natural choice going that extra step; digging in Google for information on persons! Here's what I've learned about Dave Barry so far:

He is one writer whose is genuinely sarcastic in the US :-) Well, I've been in US since 1998, and he is the only one I found worth reading.

Posted by: valerief on January 28, 2003 09:27 PM'Syndicated humor columnist' is probably the correct description. He is also popular writer whose books have high visibility in USA. I guess one takes his name recognition kinda granted which is unfair.
I think part of the reason everyone got worked up is: Dave Barry would be considered mainstream in a 'won't know what is a weblog' kinda way. Barry's getting a blogspot account is part of the growing visibility of weblogs even among non-politico journos in US ...
Posted by: kaushik on January 28, 2003 11:13 PMDave Barry was James Lileks before James Lileks was James Lileks. Dave was the old generation. James is the new.
Posted by: Jeff Jarvis on January 29, 2003 03:38 AMIf Dave Barry leaned on trotting his kid out every time he wanted to blatantly manipulate pull at your heartstrings, he'd be the old-school Lileks. But they're both guys who are good at their comedic formulas without offending most mainstream audiences.
