I moved into my new London flat yesterday night, and I ordered Virgin Broadband today. It seems to be the only UK broadband provider that offers less than 12 month minimum contract time. Decently priced it was too: no setup fee, 10 pounds for ADSL modem and filters, 24.99 per month for 512 kbps.
They are vague about any usage restrictions (Gb/month?); apparently some exist but they are not trivially found from the homepage. (Anyone has more info?)
Congratulations! Reminds me that I need to check if my upgrade has been put into effect (2 Mbit/s) :-)
Posted by: Jarle on June 3, 2004 03:52 PMHi, I know I'm commenting on an old entry. Was just wondering how you were finding the virgin broadband service (I have a self-vested interest as I signed up a few days ago!)
I reckon a good thing about the virgin deal is that you're able to migrate to another provider at a reduced fee (or even free with some ISPs) if you're not entirely happy with virgin. (And there are some that offer a 1 month contract and free migration - I've been looking... just in case! :).
On the subject of the capping, virgin appear to be keeping the figure close to their chest. The unofficial figure (from discussion forums) is 5Gb/week, although there have been reports that even people who exceed these limits will get told off by virgin!

"The unofficial figure (from discussion forums) is 5Gb/week, although there have been reports that even people who exceed these limits *have not been* told off by virgin..."
