Geniuses fighting terror

CNN: Amtrak begins random ID checks

Amtrak conductors have begun random checks of passengers' IDs as a precaution against terrorist attacks.

Bruce Schneier: Amtrak "Security"
This works because, somehow, terrorists don't have IDs.

I've written about this kind of thing before. It's the kind of program that makes us no safer, and wastes everyone's time and Amtrak's money.

You're supposed to present an ID before boarding anyway. I don't get it...

Shhh, don't tell anyone: But most of the security checks - even at airports - are more a matter of making people feel like their safety is taken care of, then of actually catching the bad guys. I am sure its the same thing in this situation.
