How to redirect after changing your domain name

For people arriving searching for "how to redirect after changing domain name", my advice is largely unchanged from when I wrote my piece on website strategies when changing company names: Use a proper HTTP redirect where possible for website visitors (humans and robots). Just be careful not to use the same re-direct function to push visitors from a search engine optimized landing page to your home page etc. Search Engines frown at this.
