Using the iPod on a PC without iTunes

I found iTunes so annoying with it's library and the troublesome sync with my iPod etc. that in the end I've pretty much stopped using the iPod. Just as it's hit the bottom of the drawer after sinking slowly the last half year or so, someone goes out and writes a genius iPod plug-in for Winamp. I shall go on an archaeological expedition this very evening & bring the iPod back on-line!!

You could have used gnu-pod or gtk-pod to use your ipod without iTunes. I do that on my linux and freebsd boxes.
