I spent two nights at the Hotel Auditorium near Madrid airport last week. According to themselves it's Europe's largest hotel, and I can believe it. They've got 869 rooms and a massive auditorium for conferences. Unfortunately their facilities bear witness that perhaps they're stretched thinly: a 1000 person sit-down dinner is never an easy ordeal to organize, but I believe as a customer one could still expect the hotel to purchase quality ingredients and prepare them with a bit of flair. The Auditorium didn't. The breakfast and lunch buffets were similarly rather dull affairs. Much the same ingredients for both breakfast and lunch, big serving trays of hams, cheeses etc.
I guess the Hotel Auditorium provides enough space (quantity) and just enough quality for big, corporate gatherings, but I wouldn't recommend anyone to drop by there for a personal stay. Try the reasonably priced NH hotel chain with 20-something hotels in the city, or get some small independent hotel in the Sol area.
