Using ipod without itunes

Hundreds of people still stop by this blog each month looking for information on how to use an ipod without using itunes. Since the first and second entries about this, quite a lot has become available:

Windows:
A number of free and open alternatives exist; consult Wikipedia or try YamiPod (see below)

Mac:
Yamipod supports Mac, Windows and Linux, so it should help you no matter what your preference is :-)

Linux:
I use Amarok in Ubuntu. It handles all the 4 ipods in this house (a shuffle, a 2nd gen nano and a couple of older models). There are loads of alternatives to choose from and further instructions available in this forum post.
