Raising money for Cancer research UK
Johanna is going to be running the 'Race for Life' in July for Cancer Reaearch UK and she is now collecting donations for them. If you're a UK tax payer you can give an extra percentage automatically using Gift Aid.

Happy new year!
There has been little activity around here for a while. A lot going on = less time to update, but the next few days should see a couple of new entries: as comment functionality is not currently working due to spam overload and my ISP blocking the comment-scripts because of the spam-load, I will answer some emails in the blog.

Yuletide is approaching, and this has significance for believers in a number of religions, as well as for all those of us who enjoy time off and a stint of gift giving with our friends and families. Here are a couple of Xmas classics for the benefit of new readers: [...]

How can I donate to earthquake disaster victims?
Check out Eliot's post here for instructions on how to get our money to the right hands (and for information on where you can donate some money yourself too!). I'll match his donations dollar by dollar.

Upping the ante
Now every link to the charity websites listed on the Tsunami challenge webpage is generating ~US$ 3.28!! How? Eliot Landrum has generously committed to matching my final donation, as has my employer (through a program where they match employees' contributions dollar by dollar). In addition, since I'm a UK tax payer, the British Red Cross can recoup approximately an additional 28% on my donation. [...] It should be a no-brainer to get 370 additional blogger in on the deal; the total donation will now be US$ 1640
if we meet our goal! Go on! Get your fellow bloggers blogging for charity!

So far so good, below are the charity-links-for-dollars 'Tsunami fundraiser challenge' entries I have counted so far. To be updated as the challenge progresses: [...]

Webloggers: Give to tsunami victims and I'll give too!
I want to challenge other webloggers: Whether you give money, time or whether you decide to share your link-power; if you create a post on your weblog front page or create permanent links in your blogroll and link to the below organizations, then link to my blog and this posting, I will pay US$ 1 to the British Red Cross.

Broadening the mind, learning something new
Always eager to keep learning new stuff, I find Wikipedia to be a treasure trove of new tidbits to learn. Quality controlled through the communal wiki process, one is never guaranteed that everything is always right, but the contents are comprehensive and generally very well researched.

Hanging on to all five balls
''Each of us is given five balls. One is rubber and four are glass. The rubber ball is work. If you drop it, it will always bounce back. The other four glass balls are family, friends, health and integrity. If you drop them, they are shattered. They won’t bounce back.''

What is art?
An ironic comment on modern art? Meta meta meta of Tracey Emin's messy beds and installations of garbage? I'm not sure, but I sure wasn't too impressed. [...]

Selling the rights to digital photographs?
An advertising agency has been asking to acquire my permission to use one of my photos. What are other photo-bloggers' experiences with this? ... have others been approached regarding sale of images, and what are reasonable asking prices?

So far, in France
I've spent more than a week entirely offline and have enjoyed it immensely. Both my mobile phones have been turned off, as well as keeping the laptop shut at the bottom of my bag has made me well relaxed. I've had a good play with the new camera and will upload some photos the next days...

I'm off for three weeks. Don't expect to see me in the office or answering email, but do expect the odd blog-posting :-)
